| Abstract | Physical initialization was developed to provide accurate initial conditions to the numerical weather prediction models. This procedure includes a low cost data assimilation system, and the diabatic heating effects through a physical nudging, which is related to precipitation assimilation. Implementing physical initialization in a version oí the Centro de Previsão de Tempo e Estudos Climáticos Atmospheric General Circulation Model, one seeks to improve the model's ability to predict the short-term rainfall over the tropics. By means oí this initialization method, the correlation coefficients between Special Sensor Microwaveflmager rainfall estimates and either initial conditions or the short-term íorecasts were increased with considerable reduction oí spin-up. |
